What is a Tapas Bar?

In Spain, "tapas" refers to small dishes typically enjoyed with a drink before a meal. A tapas bar, therefore, is a place where you can enjoy a variety of Spanish dishes alongside your favorite drinks.

Located just a 5-minute walk from Exit 1 of Itaewon Station, Tapas Bar is easy to find. On weekdays, it opens from 3 PM until 1 AM the next day. On weekends, it opens earlier at 12 PM and stays open until 3 AM. If you're planning a weekday visit, make sure to check the opening hours in advance.

Must-Try Dishes

The standout menu item at Tapas Bar is definitely the Paella — a traditional Spanish rice dish. Here, you can choose between Squid Ink Paella and Tomato Paella. Each paella is carefully prepared with seafood broth simmered for 2 hours and tomato sauce cooked for 3 hours. Once you order, expect about a 25-minute preparation time, so a little patience is needed.

I personally tried the Squid Ink Paella, and it exceeded my expectations! If you're not a big fan of tomatoes, I highly recommend going for the squid ink version. Although the black color might seem a bit intimidating at first, one bite will completely win you over.

 

 

Besides paella, Tapas Bar also serves other iconic Spanish dishes like Gambas al Ajillo (garlic shrimp) and Honey Cheese Cod, which features cod topped with aioli and honey, cooked in a rich tomato sauce.
Among all these, I especially want to recommend the Eggplant Gratin. Even if you're not usually a fan of eggplant, this dish could change your mind. The combination of the tender eggplant and flavorful tomato sauce is simply addictive!

Drinks

Tapas Bar offers not only amazing food but also a wide variety of drinks. From five different types of sangria to popular Spanish beers and other international beers, there’s something for every taste.
They also create their own signature cocktails and offer a selection of wines and liqueurs that change every season — definitely worth checking out!

Final Thoughts

Spanish cuisine can be hard to find in Korea, and Tapas Bar was actually my first real experience trying it. With its wide variety of dishes, guaranteed flavors, great service, cozy atmosphere, and reasonable prices, I highly recommend Tapas Bar to anyone curious about Spanish food.
